Depending on your type of music, having a great bass is delightful, especially for those who love hip-hop, rock, and other genres which produces low-frequency sounds. So having a headphone that creates excellent quality of the bass is almost compulsory.
There are many headphones in the market nowadays that produces high-quality sound (especially the bass), but most of them are quite expensive. Don’t fret though because there are ways to have a headphone that gives good quality sound but is considerably cheaper than other headphones. If you are short on budget and want to find an alternative on how to get a cheap headphone with an excellent bass sound, we will show you how to boost the bass on basically any type of headphones be it competitive or high end.
There are many ways to improve the bass on your headphones, and here we provide you with a few examples:
Headphone Bass Modification
First, you need to gather the necessary equipment to proceed with this operation. Here are the materials needed:
· Your pair of headphones that needs to be improved (obviously)
· 1x screwdriver (Philips)
· 1x screwdriver with a flat head
Now that you have all the materials, you can proceed to the first step of our tutorial.
Step 1: Removing the Headphone Housing
To remove the casing of your headphone, you must first loosen screws that are scattered all over it. Use a Philips screwdriver to remove these screws and set them aside, making sure not to lose them while you do the modification. It is advised to put them in a safe container so that they won’t be misplaced.
Step 2: Scraping the Back of the Speaker
As you can see in the picture above, the back of the speaker has a somewhat silver coating. The next thing that we are going to do is to remove that silver coating for the speaker to vent more air inside thus creating a more robust and crisp sound (especially the bass). To remove that, get a flat-headed screwdriver and chip away at those silver parts. It would help if you were careful not to damage the holes.
Step 3: Puncturing of the Holes
For the next step, we need to puncture those holes as seen above. You will need a small screwdriver for this (preferably one with a flat head). Puncture the holes lightly and make sure that the residual tapes or paper will not fall inside the craters. You can do this by scooping the paper/tape outwards, or you can tilt the entire speaker so that the vents face the ground while puncturing. This way the tape/paper will fall directly into the ground and not inside the holes while you pierce them. The reason behind the puncturing of these holes is that your speaker will vent more air inside, thus making the sound resonate in the broader space. This will increase the quality of the music and produce a slightly powerful bass than before.
Step 4: Finalizing and Recapping of the Headphone
After you have punctured the holes, it is now time to recap the speakers and reassemble the housing. In closing the headphones, make sure to tighten the screws properly as failure to do so might cause some leakage of air and might eventually reduce the quality of the sound your headphone will create.
Most of the cheap headphones available in the market are fitted with low-quality leather, and sometimes these are the causes of discomfort and also reduction in the quality of sound. When these faux leathers are in contact with your ears for a prolonged period, this might cause comfort problems and even allergies to some individuals. One solution is to replace these leathers with high-quality leathers that can be bought online and individual shops in your locale depending on where you live.
When you purchase one of these replacements, make sure to check the quality and durability of the items. It is also advised to research for reviews on the product and browse through comments to fully understand the specifications of the product you are going to buy. By the time you have the product, you must be delighted with its specs and performance base on the research you have done.
These replacements come with manuals on how to put them into your headphones and most of the time; the process is quite easy. You need to remove the old leather and refit the replacement, and you’re good to go.
Bass Enhancement through Control Panel or a 3rd Party Application
For those people who use their headphones on a computer, laptop or smartphones, there is also an alternative way of improving the quality of the sound of your headphones, especially the lower frequencies. This method is the easiest, and it doesn’t require you to tamper with your headphones physically, thus avoiding probable damage to your device. This method involves tweaking of the settings provided in the Control Panel.
There are a lot of videos that provide tutorials on how to do bass boost on PC. Here is an example.
